This supplement lists specific dates and information for the May 12, 2008 Quadrennial Elections. Use these dates in conjunction with the attached Information for Municipal and Rural Community Election and By-Election Candidates.

Municipal Returning Office Information:
To be a candidate in this election, you must return your fully completed nomination papers to the following Municipal Returning Office no later than 2:00 p.m. April 11, 2008:

Information on the Role of Municipal or Rural Community Councils:
For information on the role of municipal or rural community councils, contact your local municipal office, or the Capacity Building Branch of the Department of Local Government, at 506-444-4423, or their website at http://www.gnb.ca/0370/index-e.asp.
The Department of Local Government will also run a general Municipal Orientation between June 19 and 21, 2008 at the Delta Hotel in Fredericton, New Brunswick. This orientation will provide an overview of the Municipalities Act legislation, the roles and responsibilities of a mayor and council, municipal finances and the budgeting process, community planning processes as well as an overview of pertinent legal issues of a municipality (e.g. conflict of interest). |
