Elections New Brunswick is a non partisan body. The Chief Electoral Officer is appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor and has the mandate to exercise general direction and supervision over the administrative conduct of elections, to enforce on the part of the fifty-five Returning Officers, fairness, impartiality and compliance with the Elections Act and the Political Process Financing Act, and to issue to election officers such instructions as are deemed necessary to ensure effective execution of the Elections Act. Elections New Brunswick is responsible for all of the planning, coordination, reporting and monitoring of provincial elections and referendums, and must be ready at all times for the call of a general election or by-elections arising due to resignations or deaths. Its head office is located at 551 King Street, Fredericton, NB, and as soon as an election is called, a local Returning Office is opened in each electoral district.
