FREDERICTON (GNB) – Residents in two regions of New Brunswick will head to the polls on Monday, Dec. 2, to vote in plebiscites on two community restructuring projects.

In southern New Brunswick, the local service district of Hanwell will vote on becoming a rural community. In northern New Brunswick, residents of 18 local service districts and a portion of two others in the Tracadie- Sheila region will vote on becoming a regional municipality.

Polls will be open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Voters whose name is on the voters' list should have received a Voter Information Card in the mail that shows the location of their polling station.

“The card is not required to be able to vote, but bringing it speeds up the process at the poll,” said Michael Quinn, municipal electoral officer of New Brunswick. “Voters who are not on the voters' list may also be added at the polls on Election Day by providing appropriate identification.”

Results of the plebiscite votes will be available on the Elections NB website on Monday after 8 p.m.
