FREDERICTON (GNB) – Electors in municipalities holding by-elections to fill vacancies on council, holding first elections, or voting in plebiscites to form rural communities should receive cards in the mail this week telling them when and where to vote.

More than 53,000 Voter Information Cards will be delivered by Canada Post. The cards indicate where electors will go to vote for advance voting on Saturday, May 3, where to vote on Election Day on Monday, May 12, as well as how they can vote by special ballot if required.  

“We encourage voters to bring their cards with them when they go to vote as this will ensure faster service,” said Michael Quinn, chief electoral officer. “A unique bar code printed on each card will help polling staff using hand-held scanners to quickly find the voter's name on electronic lists, which are stored on laptop computers set up at the polling stations.”

Eligible voters who do not receive a Voter Information Card, or who do not bring it to the polling station, will be directed to a special team at each station that will check the voters list or add the person to the list if necessary.

Voters can also find voting information for their area online by visiting the Elections NB website.  Using the Search your Municipal, DEC and RHA Election Information link, voters can quickly find the location of their local polling stations, the list of candidates running within their polling division, as well as contact information for the returning office in their region.
