FREDERICTON (GNB) – The first election for the newly-expanded Village of Eel River Crossing will take place on Sept. 28. Nominations closed today with eight candidates entering the contest to fill the four councillor-at-large positions. Only one individual filed nomination papers for the position of mayor, Denis Savoie, so he has been elected by acclamation.
The candidates running for council are: James Beattie, Laurent Hachey, Francois Joseph Levesque, Mario J. Pelletier, Rhéal J. Pelletier, Gilles Savoie, Manon Savoie and Marcel E. Savoie.
If a candidate wishes to withdraw his or her name, they have until 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 7.
One day of advance voting is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 19. Polls will be open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on both Sept. 19 and 28.
