FREDERICTON (GNB) – Residents in two regions of New Brunswick will vote on Monday, Nov. 9, in plebiscites on community restructuring projects.

In southern New Brunswick, the Town of Sussex and the Village of Sussex Corner will vote on merging to become a larger town. In northwestern New Brunswick, residents of five villages and six local service districts will vote on forming a rural community. The villages are Saint-Hilaire, Baker-Brook, Lac Baker, Clair and Saint-Francois de Madawaska, and the local service districts are those that surround these municipalities.

Advance polls will be held between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31. Ordinary polls will be held Nov. 9 between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Electors should have received individual voter information cards in the mail informing them of their polling stations.

“The card is not required to be able to vote, but bringing it speeds up the process at the poll,” said Michael Quinn, municipal electoral officer of New Brunswick. “Voters who are not on the voters' list may be added at the polls on election day by providing appropriate identification that shows their name, current address and signature.”

Voters must be 18-years-old on or before Nov. 9, a Canadian citizen, have lived in the province for at least 40 days immediately before the plebiscite, and ordinarily reside in the community.

Results of the plebiscite votes will be available on the Elections NB website sometime after the polls close on Nov. 9.
