FREDERICTON (GNB) – Advance polling for the May 9 municipal, education council and health authority elections will take place on Saturday, April 30 and Monday, May 2. Polls will be open on both days from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

“Any eligible voter who wishes to cast their vote in advance of the regular polling day can do so at these advance polls,” said Mike Quinn, municipal electoral officer.

Elections NB is encouraging voters to bring their Voter Information Cards with them when they go to the polls. Each card has a unique bar code to help workers quickly find the voter's name, which are stored on electronic lists, using laptop computers set-up at each of the polling stations. People not on the voters list are required to show identification to be added to the list and allowed to vote.

Voters also have the option of voting by special ballot, which are available at the 23 returning offices and satellite offices around the province, six days a week, up to and including election day. In addition, Elections NB can arrange, by appointment, to have a special ballot brought to the residence of a voter who is unable to leave their homes because of illness or incapacity.

“These voting options provide greater flexibility to individuals to choose the opportunity to vote that is most convenient for them,” said Quinn.

Information on the locations of advance and regular polling stations is available on each elector’s Voter Information Card and on the Elections NB website, or by calling 1-888-858-VOTE (8683).
