The Chief Electoral Officer is the Supervisor of Political Financing under the Political Process Financing Act.
The Supervisor administers the Act and monitors compliance with its provisions. The Act requires each registered political party to file with the
Supervisor a semi-annual financial return disclosing the sources of political contributions, other revenues, and details as to how those funds
were expended. Each registered district association and each registered independent candidate are required to file a similar return annually.
The Act places limits on how much may be spent to contest an election. The chief agent of each registered political party and the official agent
of each candidate are required to file with the Supervisor a statement of election expenses. These statements are reviewed and, where applicable,
an election expense reimbursement is authorized by the Supervisor.
All financial returns are available for public examination at the office of Elections New Brunswick.
