FREDERICTON (GNB) – Nominations open Monday, Oct. 27, for 24 municipal and rural community byelections which will be held Dec. 8. Nominations close at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 14. Candidates have until Nov. 17 to withdraw their names.

If more than one candidate is nominated for a position a byelection will be held. The communities with vacant positions are as follows:

•           Beaubassin East (mayor and one ward councillor);

•           Campbellton (one councillor at large);

•           Clair (one councillor at large);

•           Doaktown (one councillor at large);

•           Hampton (one councillor at large);

•           Hanwell (one ward councillor);

•           Hillsborough (one councillor at large);

•           Le Goulet (mayor and one councillor at large);

•           Meductic (one councillor at large);

•           Miramichi (one councillor at large);

•           Neguac (one councillor at large);

•           Nigadoo (one councillor at large);

•           Pointe-Verte (mayor);

•           Saint Andrews (two councillors at large);

•           Saint-Anne-de-Madawaska (one councillor at large);

•           St. George (one councillor at large);

•           Saint-Léonard (one councillor at large);

•           Saint-Marie-Saint-Raphaël (one councillor at large);

•           Saint-Quentin (one councillor at large);

•           St. Stephen (one councillor at large);

•           Shippagan (mayor);

•           Sussex (one councillor at large);

•           Tracy (one councillor at large); and

•           Upper Miramichi (one ward councillor).

"These are important positions, which allow people to give back to the communities in which they live," Municipal Electoral Officer Michael Quinn said. “Elections New Brunswick strongly encourages residents in these communities to consider running for these positions.”

Nomination papers may be picked up from a municipal returning officer or at local municipal offices, or they can be printed from the Elections New Brunswick website.

Elections New Brunswick is accepting the names and resumes of individuals interested in working during the elections. Those may be dropped off or faxed to the appropriate municipal returning officers or interested individuals may complete an employment application online.
