FREDERICTON (GNB) – Elections New Brunswick is expanding its campus outreach program to include voting stations at 18 post-secondary institutions across the province for the Sept. 24 provincial general election.

“We want to make voting as accessible as possible for students,” said Kim Poffenroth, chief electoral officer for New Brunswick. “We look forward to working once again with the various student organizations to promote our campus voting stations and the convenience they provide to students.”

The campus voting stations are located at the University of New Brunswick’s Fredericton and Saint John campuses; Université de Moncton’s campuses in Moncton, Edmundston and Shippagan; St. Thomas University; Mount Allison University; Crandall University; the Collège Communitaire du Nouveau Brunswick’s Edmundston, Shippagan, Campbellton and Bathurst campuses and the New Brunswick Community College campuses in Moncton, Fredericton, Saint John and Miramichi.

Along with a marketing campaign targeting younger voters, Elections New Brunswick will provide funding to the student councils on six of the larger campuses to hire students as election ambassadors.

“The role of these ambassadors will be to raise excitement among the student population and create awareness on those campuses of when and where we will be coming to get their votes,” said Poffenroth.

The campus voting stations will be open during the week of Sept. 17-21. Students attending post-secondary institutions have the unique option to vote for candidates in the electoral districts where they are ordinarily resident, or for candidates in the electoral districts where they live while attending school.

Students also have the option to vote at their designated polling locations or at any returning office.
