FREDERICTON (GNB) – Byelections will take place in 17 municipalities on Monday, Dec. 10 following today’s close of nominations.

Byelections will take place in:

  • Alma (one councillor);
  • Aroostook (one councillor);
  • Bathurst (one councillor);
  • Beaubassin East (one councillor, Ward 3)
  • Dalhousie (one councillor);
  • Doaktown (mayor);
  • Hanwell (mayor);
  • Hartland (one councillor);
  • Memramcook (one councillor);
  • Moncton (one councillor, Ward 3);
  • Nackawic (one councillor);
  • Sackville (one councillor);
  • Shediac (one councillor);
  • St. George (one councillor);
  • Saint Andrews (one councillor);
  • Sussex Corner (one councillor); and
  • Tracadie (one councillor Ward 1, two councillors Ward 7).

One day of advance voting is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 1. Polls will be open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Election Day is Monday, Dec. 10.

Candidates were elected by acclamation in:

  • Aroostook (Darryl David Demmings, mayor);
  • Lac Baker (Jean-Marc Nadeau, councillor);
  • Minto (Erica Barnett, mayor and Derrick W. Quigley, councillor);
  • Rexton (Joseph Murphy, councillor);
  • Salisbury (Robert Campbell, councillor);
  • Shediac (Roger Caissie, mayor);
  • Sussex Corner (Steven D. Stackhouse, mayor); and
  • Tracadie (Yolan Thomas, councillor Ward 2).

Following the close of nominations vacancies remained in the municipalities of Beaubassin East, Florenceville-Bristol and Rivière-Verte. Those positions, and any additional vacancies that may occur, will be included in the next round of municipal byelections scheduled for May 2019.
