Eligibility and ID Requirements
A person is qualified to vote in a provincial election if they are:
- a Canadian citizen;
- 18 years of age or older on Election Day;
- permanently living in the Province for at least 40 days before the election; and
- living in the electoral district, local government or school district on Election Day
ID Requirements
If you are already on the list of electors
You are not required to show ID when voting in a New Brunswick election. Instead, you will state your name and address to the poll worker so that they can find your name on the list of electors.
To update your information, you can call your local returning office, make the changes when you go vote or call Elections New Brunswick at 1-888-858-8683.
If you are a first-time voter
You must meet the qualifications to vote listed above and provide one or more pieces of ID that between them show your name, current address and signature.
(A New Brunswick driver’s license contains all three).
Other options include:
- lease agreements, utility bills, student IDs, Medicare Card, Certificate of Indian Status, etc.
- a friend already on the voters list who will take an oath to vouch for you.
During an election, everyone on the voters list is mailed a Voter Information Card telling them when and where they can vote.
