Following the commencement of a new session of the Legislative Assembly, the leader of each qualifying registered political party is required, in accordance with subsection 155(1) of the Elections Act and subsection 21(1) of the Political Process Financing Act, to designate that party’s representatives on two important advisory committees to Elections New Brunswick - the Advisory Committee on the Electoral Process and the Advisory Committee on the Financing of the Political Process.
The Chair of the two advisory committees is the Chief Electoral Officer, who is also the Supervisor of Political Financing.
The Chair consults the advisory committees periodically with regard to the application of the Acts. The advisory committees give their advice and opinion on any matter or question posed by the Chair relating to the electoral process, the financing of the political process, or the application of the Acts.
The advisory committees may make the results of their work public.
