Archaeological Services is responsible for the comprehensive cultural resource management of the Province's archaeological heritage.

This responsibility includes using the tools provided by the Heritage Conservation Act to protect, preserve and interpret New Brunswick's non-renewable archaeological resources.

Our functions include issuing permits and overseeing archaeological research, collection management, archaeological assessment and impact mitigation, heritage education, and liaison with First Nations.

We also provide professional and technical expertise to work with industry, municipal, provincial and federal agencies, with First Nations, communities, non-profit groups, and individuals.



Archaeological Services strives to:

  • enhance our cultural diversity
  • facilitate development and implementation of heritage management solutions
  • continue developing positive relationships with First Nations in the management of heritage resources
  • increase accessibility to knowledge and awareness of New Brunswick's archaeological past
